Cat’s don’t really care if a square 2 or 3 dimensional, or even imaginary, they sit on it anyway.

It is widely known that one of the most important aspects of environmental enrichment for a cat is having the opportunity to hide in a box. Cats’ owners know that cats love to jump into any kind of box, basket etc.

However, this new finding is surprising. A study carried out during the pandemic has found that cats’ love for enclosed spaces such as cardboard and boxes and laundry baskets extends to even imaginary squares. The study wanted to know more about cat’s visual perception seeing whether they are capable of perceiving an illusory square in the same ways they would a physical one. The results point that cats are drawn to boxes, even if they are illusory.
